Regenerative medicine is a rapidly growing multidisciplinary field involving the life, physical and engineering sciences that seeks to develop functional cell, tissue, and organ substitutes in order to restore anatomy and function that has been lost due to congenital abnormalities, injury, disease, or ageing.

Current available therapeutic methods, reconstructive surgery, tissue and organ transplantation offer valuable solutions in successfully addressing a wide variety of pathological conditions. However, there are limitations of current available therapies Medical devices cannot complexly substitute the biological function and will eventually deteriorate with time. Facing increasing needs for tissue and organ replacements due to trauma or degenerative conditions, there is a shortage of available donors rising ethical debates over waiting lists priorities and organ harvesting protocols.

Not only regenerative medicine is to offer valuable solutions for addressing these issues, but it is also to be sought as revolutionary concept in health care. Regenerating, replacing, enhancing anatomy and or function is to be done either by using natural body capacity of healing, inducing in vivo regeneration either by ex vivo generating functional tissues and organs closely similar to original ones.

Though still in early stages, regenerative medicine has already provided efficient solutions for tissue transplantation of skin, bone, cartilage. Recent clinical research is going on for imposing chronic wound healing, diabetes treatment, corneal and spinal regeneration. It has been stated that application of regenerative medicine is the most promising tool for improving health in developing countries facing the challenge of increasing rates of noncomunicable diseases.

In the same extent as the concern for clinical application, the use of advanced technologies has become an obligatory step for further promoting research in the field. Computational biology, bioinformatics and systems biology are not only useful research tool but are proofing efficiency in translational and clinical research.
